On Christmas Eve, my sister Janessa (who is also into making music) and I decided to do a cover of a classic Simon & Garfunkel song, Sound of Silence. I remember exactly where I was when I got into this song. I was sitting on the couch of my dorm at BYU (when I was actually there) playing music on my computer while my roommate Dean did something nearby. He was a real stickler for 80’s hair rock like Styx, so it was kind of hard for us to find mutually liked music. But when we landed on The Sound of Silence and we both liked it, well, I guess I just assumed that wasn’t a fluke. (more…)
This is a cover I made of The Strokes – Someday, a band I’ve been listening to quite a bit lately. When I made it, I decided to dedicate it to my brother’s birthday since the first line gives me some nostalgia (in many ways / they’ll miss the good old days / someday, someday) but the rest of the song doesn’t fit, honestly. Hey, The Beatles are a good band. So because of this, I helped a bunch of other musicians cover the entire Beatles album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The original album is one of the best of all-time, and there is some pretty sweet stuff on here (its hard to mess up what they had. (more…)
